Allocated Deforestation Risk Maps: Timetable

The timetable below indicates when Verra has published or anticipates the provisional allocated deforestation risk maps for each jurisdiction (open-access data).

Verra publishes the provisional lower-resolution (1 ha) version of the allocated deforestation risk maps (open-access data) for a given jurisdiction so project proponents can use these data to conduct due diligence and explore the feasibility of registering a project using Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) methodology VM0048 Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, v1.0 and the associated module VMD0055 Avoided Unplanned Deforestation, v1.1 with the VCS Program.

The standard procedure is that Verra will make the final allocated deforestation risk maps and VMD0055-compliant project baseline activity data (VMD0055-compliant data) available two to three months after the release of the provisional open-access data, provided the VMD0055-compliant data clears the required third-party review. Where the review indicates a need for further improvement of VMD0055-compliant data, detailed updates about the development status and on the detected issues are provided on the Development Status of VMD0055-Compliant Jurisdictional Maps of Allocated Deforestation Risk webpage.

Note: The different stages in the data development process (listed under “Current Stage”) are defined as follows:

Data Development Stages:

  1. AD Collection: The data service provider (DSP) will determine the jurisdictional baseline activity data (AD) for unplanned deforestation and develop a time series of historical forest cover benchmark maps (FCBMs)
  2. AD Third-Party Review: The DSP will review the AD and FCBMs for each jurisdiction and compile detailed assessment reports.
  3. Risk Mapping: The DSP will develop benchmark and alternative jurisdictional deforestation risk maps to be used for AD allocation
  4. Provisional Allocated Deforestation Risk Map Ready: The provisional allocated risk map for this jurisdiction is available for download and can be used for due diligence purposes. Provisional data have not yet undergone a final review.
    • NOTE: In some cases, these data may include known issues that will be addressed prior to release of VMD0055-compliant data. If data include known issues, they will be described in the README file that is provided with the data.
    • NOTE: Stakeholders who identify accuracy issues in the provisional open-access data can provide this information within three weeks of the release date via a dedicated feedback form (external). Identified errors will be addressed prior to the release of VMD0055-compliant data.
  5. Risk Mapping Review – A third-party reviewer will compile a detailed assessment report to ensure that the alternative deforestation risk maps comply with VT0007 requirements and associated best practices.
  6. Risk-Allocated Baseline AD – the AD has gone through steps 1-5 and is ready to be allocated to projects and can be accessed through the Verra Project Hub. Please reference the PADA fee announcement for information about the costs. At this point, Verra will also release final allocated deforestation risk maps that include all remaining updates.

The timetable below is current as of June 10, 2025. Verra continually updates this table to reflect projections for data availability as accurately as possible. Occasional changes in these projections occur as Verra works to provide high-quality data for the development of projects using VM0048.

** To request VMD0055-compliant data in Verra Project Hub, submit a Project Activity Data Allocation Request, “PADA Request”, from the “Forms” menu. (Please be prepared to upload a KML file of the project area.) If “PADA Request” is not available, request it from your dashboard or email hubsupport@verra.org.

Verra will review all PADA requests promptly and issue a corresponding invoice; upon receipt of payment, the data will be shared with the requesting party.
