Revision to AMS-III.Y to Include Use of Organic Bedding Material

AMS-III.Y applies to project activities that avoid or reduce methane production from anaerobic wastewater treatment systems and anaerobic manure management systems, through the removal of volatile solids from the wastewater or manure slurry stream. The separated solids are further treated, used, or disposed in a manner resulting in lower methane emissions.

The proposed revision is to allow the use of the separated solids as bedding material in the barns, while ensuring hygiene conditions for the animals and its products. Also, additionality requirements will be strengthened.

The revision follows an alternative process, per Section 2.1.2 of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.4 (PDF). Verra is leading and authoring the revision. The draft methodology is currently at “Step 3: Draft Methodology Development” of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF).
