Module for CO2 Storage via Geological Mineralization in Igneous Rock Formations 

The proposed module applies to select projects applying the Methodology Framework for Carbon Capture and Storage. It applies to project activities that store CO₂ by injecting water-dissolved CO₂ into reactive, igneous rock. The proposed module quantifies the net amount of CO₂ chemically bound through mineralization and that remains as a dissolved phase in the reservoir fluid with the ongoing mineralization process.

The concept note was submitted by South Pole Carbon Asset Management Ltd. (opens on external site) and Perspectives Climate Group (opens on external site) and is a part of the CCS+ Initiative. The concept note is currently at “Step 2: Methodology Concept Note Development” of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, 4.3 (PDF).
