Posadas, Misiones, Argentina and Washington, D.C. – Verra, the nonprofit that serves as the leading standards-setter for the carbon markets, and the Ministry of Treasury, Finance, Works, and Public Services of the Misiones Province, Argentina announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote comprehensive capacity building for ministry officials and stakeholders with interest in the carbon market.

This collaboration process will begin with training on carbon markets, their status in the region, the operation of Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program and its methodologies with the greatest potential for use in the province.

“We are excited to work with Verra to facilitate greater understanding and improved capacity building for a broad range of Misiones stakeholders, including governments, project proponents, investors, and other interested parties, and to help drive more climate finance access, which is crucial to funding more projects throughout the country,” Adolfo Safran, minister of treasury, finance, works and public services of the Misiones Province, Argentina.

“It is a great honor for Verra to work with the Ministry of Treasury, Finance, Works, and Public Services. We are confident that this working agreement will advance the climate goals of the Province of Misiones by facilitating access to carbon markets financing. We hope that this collaboration will foster a productive partnership and empower the province to effectively develop its carbon market-related projects and programs.”

Angelo Sartori, Verra’s senior director, regional engagement

The new agreement is the latest in Verra’s global initiative to help national and subnational governments to advance in their environmental commitments towards the goals established under the Paris Agreement.
