This tool provides procedures and requirements to estimate the grid emission factor of an electricity system. It is used in conjunction with the CDM Tool 7, v7.0 and was revised to align the tool with the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) Assessment Framework of the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM).
This tool is intended for use with VCS-approved methodologies and Tools where estimations of grid emission factors are required. It provides a calculation framework for projects that supply electricity to the grid and projects that increase electricity consumption from the grid.
This tool must be used to calculate the grid emission factor when required in the applicable methodology. Methodologies may have their own procedures, use only parts of this tool, or require a different tool.
Projects applying a methodology that uses the CDM TOOL07 Tool to calculate the emission factor for an electricity system (external) may choose to apply the most recent version of VT0011 until a revision of the underlying methodology is published.
