The proposed tool provides protocols to measure aboveground live trees and standing and fallen dead tree biomass. The protocol demonstrates horizontal point sampling/variable radius plots for live trees and snags and line intersect methods for fallen dead trees, which is referenced in VCS methodologies.
Summary of Development
- The methodology idea note was submitted by Foster Forestry and Environmental Consulting under an older version of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (MDRP) (PDF).
- In 2024, the development of this proposed tool was put on hold.
- On March 9, 2026, the development of this revision was archived per the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF) due to some overlap with M0289, Minor Revision to VM0045. Other relevant concepts from this proposal may be considered in future methodology revisions, tools, modules or guidance related to AFOLU field measurement and monitoring.
