Revision to AMS-III.AR: Substituting fossil fuel based lighting with LED/CFL lighting systems

Projects under AMS-III.AR include activities that replace portable fossil fuel-based lamps with battery-charged LED or CFL-based lighting systems in residential and non-residential settings. The proposed revision expands the methodology to include short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), such as black carbon, organic carbon, and carbon monoxide, in addition to standard pollutants.

The methodology idea note was rejected by Verra, as per Section 3.1.6(3) of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, 4.2 (PDF). The decision was based on the proposal’s low climate change mitigation potential compared to other proposals. Also, quantification and monitoring of SLCPs are currently not covered under the VCS Program, given the relative permanence of SLCPs compared to other climate pollutants.
