VM0036, v1.0 currently outlines procedures to estimate the reduction of net greenhouse gas emissions resulting from project activities implemented to rewet drained peatlands in temperate climatic regions.
The proposed module to VM0036 aims to expand applicability to include conservation activities and provide guidance on quantifying avoided conversion of temperate and boreal peatlands.
Summary of Development
The proposed module was submitted by Viresco Solutions Inc. (external) and Nature Conservancy of Canada (external). On December 19, 2024, the development of this module was put on hold. Verra will consider resuming the development once the following criteria are met:
- Resources are available to support the methodology development process
- The development process can be prioritized over other VCS methodology development work according to the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process.
Verra will reassess whether to resume the development of this module in Q1 2026.
