VM0036, v1.0 currently outlines procedures to estimate the reduction of net greenhouse gas emissions resulting from project activities implemented to rewet drained peatlands in temperate climatic regions.
The proposed module to VM0036 aims to expand applicability to include conservation activities and provide guidance on quantifying avoided conversion of temperate and boreal peatlands.
Summary of Development
- The methodology was proposed by Viresco Solutions Inc. under an older version of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (MDRP) (PDF).
- In December 2024, the development of this methodology was put on hold.
- In March 2026, Verra reassessed the priority of methodologies under development and decided to keep this proposal on hold.
- Verra will reassess whether to resume the development of this methodology in Q3 2026.
