3. Energy demand
Rejected 16 August 2023
The proposed new methodology applies to project activities that introduce new or rehabilitate existing zero-emission or low-emission technologies to supply clean, purified water for consumption and hygienic purposes. GHG emissions that arise from boiling unsafe water can be reduced, or avoided entirely, through the use of water treatment and/or water supply technologies.
SUMMARY OF DEVELOPMENT
The concept note was rejected by Verra, as per Section 3.1.5 (2) and 3.2.5 (3) of the Methodology Development and Review Process, 4.2 (PDF). The decision was based on the proposal’s overlap with existing methodologies, complexities and risks associated with crediting suppressed demand, and low climate change mitigation potential compared to other proposals.
