13. Waste handling and disposal

This proposed methodology estimates GHG emission reductions generated from the recycling and/or repurposing process of lithium-ion batteries, such as retired electric vehicle batteries, computer, communication, and consumer electronics (3C) lithium batteries, and energy storage batteries. It applies to project activities producing repurposable battery products or recycling battery materials.
SUMMARY OF DEVELOPMENT
The concept note was submitted by Lvzhili (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd and is currently on hold, as per section 3.2.5(2) of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, 4.3 (PDF). Verra will consider resuming the development of this concept note once:
- There is evidence of increased demand for this methodology to have a higher climate change mitigation impact;
- Upcoming regulatory requirements for waste battery recycling do not impact additionality; and
- Verra has available resources to prioritize this proposal over others.
Verra will reassess whether to resume the development and review process in Q3 2024.
