Methodology for Carpooling

The proposed methodology provides procedures to estimate reduced GHG emissions from carpooling. Project activities establish carpooling digital platforms to connect drivers with passengers traveling in the same direction. GHG emission reductions are achieved as the carbon intensity of long-distance trips is reduced by optimizing car usage and incentivizing people to utilize modes of transportation already on the road. The proposed methodology is globally applicable.

The methodology idea note was rejected by Verra, as per Section 3.1.7(3) of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.3 (PDF).

The decision was based on the proposal’s lower climate change mitigation potential compared to other proposals and potential risks associated with demonstrating additionality and the baseline approach.
