David Antonioli, Verra’s CEO, spoke with Carbon Pulse about the High-Level Expert Group on Net-Zero Emissions Commitments of Non-State Entities (HLEG) on how to bolster the credibility of net zero emissions commitments. Here is what he said:
“Verra strongly welcomes Secretary-General Guterres’s call for greater scrutiny of corporate net-zero claims. As the leading standards body for the voluntary carbon market, Verra agrees that there is currently an absence of standards on the demand side of voluntary carbon markets, in contrast to the well-developed standards that already exist on the supply side…Rigorous standards like Verra’s flagship Verified Carbon Standard are already delivering billions of tonnes of C02 reductions, and removals to help the world cut emissions as deeply and rapidly as possible to meet the climate challenge.”
