Diverting unsold assets and inventory from final disposal through digital marketplaces

The proposed methodology applies to projects that divert unsold/used assets and products from final waste disposal, preventing landfilling or incineration, via digital marketplaces. Items are commercialized/donated using a digital platform and delivered to end users. The transactions include but are not limited to assets, inventory, and products from the construction, real estate, medical, and retail industries (such as furniture, art, doors, windows, radiators, carpets, shampoo, electronics, and lighting).

The methodology idea note was rejected by Verra, as per Section 3.1.7(3) of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.3 (PDF). The decision was based on the proposal’s lower climate change mitigation potential compared to other proposals and uncertainty related to baseline emissions for heterogeneous items.
