As Senior Program Officer, Technology Solutions, Waqar leads the digitalization of methodologies and the development of Digital Measurement Reporting and Verification (DMRV) solutions for energy and industrial applications. His role involves collaborating with methodology developers and Verra staff to support the adoption of new methodologies and pilot projects.

Waqar brings a unique blend of academic rigor and over eight years of comprehensive research and industry experience to the field. His expertise revolves around key areas such as precise greenhouse gas (GHG) quantification (including scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions), the creation of carbon accounting tools, science-based targets (SBTs), climate disclosures, and impactful GHG mitigation strategies. He is well-versed in industry frameworks, including the GHG Protocol, SBTi guidelines, the CDP reporting system, IPCC guidelines, carbon offsetting protocols, and National Inventory Reports. His work has had a global impact, covering regions such as Canada, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand.

Waqar holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Guelph, Canada. His thesis project involved modeling complex greenhouse gas emissions processes from agricultural landscapes in Canada. Prior to that, he pursued a Master of Science in Boreal Ecosystems and Agricultural Sciences at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. During this time, he researched the potential of biochar in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural soils.

Living in Ontario, Canada, Waqar appreciates the diverse natural beauty of his home province. He enjoys exploring provincial parks and taking in the scenic views of the Great Lakes.
