Varun serves as a key technical resource and subject-matter expert for Verra’s Plastic Waste Reduction Program, which enables robust impact assessment of new or scaled-up plastic waste collection and recycling projects. Varun supports project reviews, and future development of the program (e.g., enhancement of existing rules and requirements, new methodologies, and development of a new VCS methodology for plastic waste management activities).

Prior to joining Verra, Varun managed the Sustainable Business portfolio at the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) India. He led the Renewable Energy Demand Enhancement initiative and the Science Based Targets incubator at WWF. As part of this work, he co-authored four technical reports on corporate renewable electricity uptake in India.

He also helped co-found the India Plastics Pact; an ambitious, collaborative platform that is bringing together actors in the plastics value chain to catalyze a shift towards a circular plastics economy. Serving as the co-lead of the India Plastics Pact he oversaw the strategy development, stakeholder engagement, communications and outreach, and technical research on important plastic waste management issues in India.

Before joining WWF, Varun worked at Confederation of Indian Industry in India, where he was providing advisory services on climate change, GHG emissions mitigation, Life Cycle Assessment, and energy efficiency. He holds a diploma in business management, and a bachelor’s degree in chemical sciences and currently lives in Ottawa, Canada. Varun enjoys cooking, reading, and hiking during his free time.
