Maria is a Senior Manager, Validation and Verification Quality Control at Verra. In this role, she oversees the witness assessments at project sites and works with Accreditation Bodies and Validation/Verification Bodies on program applications, surveillance activities, and performance results, ensuring validations and verifications meet Verra’s requirements.

Before joining Verra, Maria worked as Senior Program Manager and Lead auditor at Preferred by Nature, a non-profit certification body where she was responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of agriculture supply chain programs, providing technical support, and monitoring the quality of audits at a global scale. Before this, Maria worked in forest research, supporting the establishment, management, and ecophysiological analysis of planted forests in Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela.

Maria holds a bachelor’s degree in Forest Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes (ULA) and a master’s in Forestry from Universidade Estadual Paulista Julio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP). She currently lives in Burlington, Ontario, where you can often find her hiking with her family, exploring thrift stores, or buying new plants for her home
