As Senior Program Officer, Forest Carbon Innovation Operations, Leala manages the administrative elements of Verra’s relationship with data service providers, who will assist in implementing the new REDD methodology (VM0048). Leala will also coordinate the Forest Carbon Innovation team’s methodology development processes, and carry out training and communications-related tasks, including drafting and reviewing forest carbon team content for presentations and announcements, editing and formatting technical documents, and responding to stakeholder enquiries.

Leala’s background includes agriculture/food security, environmental conservation, project management, and capacity development. Before working at Verra, she managed the conservation social science trainings, the alumni network, and grants for the Conservation Leadership Programme at the Wildlife Conservation Society, which supports early-career conservation biologists from low and middle-income countries. Leala has a master’s in International Agriculture and Rural Development from Cornell University; her master’s research centered around gender equity and social inclusion among community forest user groups in Nepal, in the community where she was a Peace Corps Volunteer. In Leala’s free time, she is usually birdwatching, biking, working on a fiber arts project, or looking for the best mo:mos/dumplings near her home in Brooklyn, New York.
