Verra is considering several updates to the VCS Program’s methodologies for Avoiding Unplanned Deforestation and Degradation (AUDD). The changes reflect the latest scientific research, improve the consistency and accuracy of accounting, and facilitate alignment with REDD+ jurisdictional programs as well as Verra’s Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ (JNR) rules. We held a series of discussions to provide the context for an upcoming public consultation on new modules that will be integrated into Verra’s AUDD methodologies.

Manuel Estrada, REDD+ Technical Innovations Director, moderated a series of three webinars on the proposed revisions.

  • Use of the Risk Mapping Tool to identify and categorize deforestation and forest degradation risk in a jurisdictional area; and
  • Use of the Allocation Tool to allocate activity data to projects according to deforestation and forest degradation risk.
