REDD+ Stakeholder Discussions: In-depth Looks at Verra’s Avoiding Unplanned Deforestation and Degradation Methodologies
Verra is considering several updates to the VCS Program’s methodologies for Avoiding Unplanned Deforestation and Degradation (AUDD). The changes reflect the latest scientific research, improve the consistency and accuracy of accounting, and facilitate alignment with REDD+ jurisdictional programs as well as Verra’s Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ (JNR) rules. We held a series of discussions to provide the context for an upcoming public consultation on new modules that will be integrated into Verra’s AUDD methodologies.

Introduction to Verra’s Updates to VCS AUDD Project Methodologies

New Methodological Modules for VCS AUDD Projects

This webinar focused on the work of a group of experts, led by Climate Focus, to update existing AUDD methodologies. Specifically, Simon Koenig and Till Neeff presented new harmonized baseline, monitoring, leakage, and uncertainty modules, which will be integrated with Verra’s AUDD methodologies (VM0006, VM0007, VM0009, VM0015 and VM0037).
Setting the Baseline: Activity Data Collection and Allocation to Projects

Lucio Pedroni, CEO of Carbon Decisions International, provided an overview of Verra’s proposed approach to activity data collection and allocation to projects, including:
- Collection of activity data at the jurisdictional level;
- Use of the Risk Mapping Tool to identify and categorize deforestation and forest degradation risk in a jurisdictional area; and
- Use of the Allocation Tool to allocate activity data to projects according to deforestation and forest degradation risk.
