The first project in Indonesia has initiated the registration process with Verra’s Plastic Waste Reduction Program (Plastic Program).
The Reciki: Plastic Waste Valorization Project — developed by Danone AQUA Indonesia in collaboration with Reciki, a waste management solutions company in Indonesia — collects and sorts plastic waste and mechanically recycles or repurposes it. The project aims to enhance plastic waste collection in Indonesia by implementing material recovery facilities in East Java and Bali, with plans to expand to other locations.
Danone AQUA Indonesia developed this project as part of its “BijakBerplastik” (Smart Plastic) commitment to recover more plastic than it uses by 2025. These investments are part of Danone’s broader circular packaging goals to use 50% recycled content in its bottles and make all packaging material reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025.
Launched in February 2021, Verra’s Plastic Program certifies the impacts of projects that reduce plastic pollution. Verra established the Plastic Program with the help of the 3R Initiative, a cross-sectoral collaboration involving organizations such as Danone that offer specific perspectives on the plastic value chain and waste management. The Plastic Program addresses the mismanagement of large amounts of plastic waste due to inadequate waste management infrastructure and substandard disposal practices.
