Second Life Thailand supports the increased collection and recycling of plastic waste from ocean and terrestrial ecosystems in remote coastal and island communities across Thailand. The revenue from Plastic Credits makes it possible for Second Life Thailand to initiate and scale up these activities by:
- Placing a premium on plastic waste collected from hard-to-reach islands;
- Funding the sorting of collected fishing nets so that nets made of nylon can be recycled;
- Providing training, transportation, and personal protective equipment for collectors and recyclers; and
- Investing in regional initiatives to boost the recycling of materials that would otherwise be improperly discarded.
This project began its operations in 2020 and plans to continue collecting and recycling plastic waste through 2026, and beyond.
