VCS today released for public comment draft requirements for crediting Wetlands Restoration and Conservation (WRC) activities.
The draft requirements are the first ever for methodologies that credit the greenhouse gases removed by wetlands, including mangroves, freshwater tidal coastal wetlands, salt marshes, sea grasses and floodplains.
Public comments may be submitted by 23 June 2012 to secretariat@verra.org.
The requirements are incorporated directly into the VCS AFOLU Requirements document.
Review the draft requirements (PDF)
When the requirements are finalized, the new Wetlands Restoration and Conservation category will include the existing Peatland Rewetting and Conservation (PRC) requirements.
The draft WRC requirements were developed by the VCS Wetlands Technical Working Group and underwent a rigorous peer review.
This work received generous support from Restore America’s Estuaries (external site).
