While Climate Week NYC already lies three weeks behind us, we want to take a quick look back at three important announcements from that week:
- Verra and SustainCERT, a leading global carbon impact verification organization, announced a strategic Scope 3 partnership to accelerate credible corporate Scope 3 action.
- Verra and Citi, a leading financial services company, signed an MOU to (1) enable Citi to deepen its expertise in social and environmental markets and (2) provide Verra with valuable insights into innovative financial tools that can integrate with its programs.
- Verra and Türkiye’s energy exchange EPİAŞ launched a strategic partnership that will enable the first-ever exchange-based trading of Verra-certified carbon credits on the EPİAŞ platform.
We are also excited to share the first two stories in a new series that showcases the real-life impact of Verra’s standards programs–how they advance climate action and transform the lives of local communities. Learn how TIST has helped over 230,000 farmers build climate-resilient communities by planting trees in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and India; and explore Deekali Plastic Recovery West Africa, an innovative waste management project developed by Africa Carbon & Commodities, which has created hundreds of jobs while reducing plastic pollution in Senegal.
Additionally, we hope you will join us for our stakeholder update webinar next Wednesday, October 23, at 11:00 am ET to hear about our most recent achievements and other important updates.

New Resources
- Explore the story of TIST (The International Small Group and Tree Planting Program), an organization that has empowered over 230,000 farmers in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and India to build climate-resilient communities. By planting and maintaining trees on degraded and/or unused land, the farmers have captured over 6 million metric tons of CO2. The sale of carbon credits fuels a cycle of growth, creating critical revenue to expand the afforestation efforts of these farmers, as well as their ability to purchase equipment and provide essentials for their families. Nine TIST forest projects are currently registered in Verra’s VCS Program.
- Discover the impact of Deekali Plastic Recovery West Africa, a Senegal-based project that is revolutionizing waste management. Developed by Africa Carbon & Commodities and certified with Verra’s Plastic Waste Reduction Program, the Deekali Project pays plastic pickers to remove waste from the community and repurpose it into valuable goods and commodities. So far, the project has removed 4,076 metric tons of plastic waste from the environment, with 5,219 tons repurposed and recycled. It has also created 300 jobs and resulted in a 28% decrease in the open burning of plastic waste, creating a cleaner, healthier community.
- Hear from Verra CEO Mandy Rambharos (external) in the latest episode of Carbon Herald’s Carbonsations podcast. Mandy discusses how the voluntary carbon market drives climate action on the ground, reducing emissions while providing important benefits for sustainable development and local communities.
