Verra has added a new module for use with the Methodology for Improved Forest Management through Reduced Impact Logging (VM0035). The module accounts for GHG emission reductions from reduced impact logging practices in tropical moist forests of the southern and eastern Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico. It applies to projects on ejido land (communal forests) where community forestry enterprises perform logging to produce timber and non-timber forest products.
The module enables the generation of carbon credits from addressing inefficiencies in logging practices due to poor felling practices, low adoption of reduced-impact logging equipment and practices, and poor harvest operations planning. To accommodate specific regional circumstances, The Nature Conservancy has developed this new module for the Yucatán region.
