VCS module VMD0015 has been revised to add methods for the precise monitoring of forest degradation from natural disturbances or from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified selective logging. The updated version of VMD0015 (v2.0) may be used immediately.

VMD0015 – or REDD Methodological Module: Methods for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and removals (M-MON) – is the main monitoring module in the comprehensive set of REDD Methodology Modules (VM0007)developed by Avoided Deforestation Partners.

Projects that Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) can use VMD0015 to monitor carbon stocks over time.

The revision expands the functionality of the module to include methods for monitoring precise carbon stock losses where natural disturbances have occurred or where FSC-certified selective logging is taking place. This will make the module applicable to a broader range of real-world project scenarios.

The revision was completed by Winrock International on behalf of The Nature Conservancy. However, the module retains its original VCS number VMD0015, and ADP retains formal ownership of the work.

The revision was assessed by two validation/verification bodies – DNV and SCS – and given final approval by VCS. All assessment reports and other documents are available on the VMD0015 page of the VCS website.
