Methodology for Production of Substitutes that Displace the Use of Peat in Growing Media

This proposed methodology is globally applicable and comprises of project activities to displace the mining, transportation, and use of peat with the production, transportation, and application of peat substitutes from sustainably sourced materials to avoid greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The concept note was rejected by Verra, as per Section 3.1.5(2) and 3.2.5(3) of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, 4.2 (PDF). The decision was based on the proposal’s low climate change mitigation potential compared to other proposals and concerns related to demonstrating additionality.
