Methodology for Reducing Household Electricity Emissions by Incentivizing Behavior Change and Technology Switches

The proposed methodology applies to projects that reduce grid electricity emissions from residential households by incentivizing behavior changes and technology switches. Projects monitor electricity consumption and tailor feedback and incentives that “nudge” behavior and technology choices to reduce overall household electricity consumption.

Verra rejected the draft methodology, as per Sections 2.1.5 and 2.1.6 of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.4 (PDF). The decision was based on the proposal’s failure to address leakage-related issues within a reasonable amount of time, and Verra determined that this proposal could not be prioritized over other current initiatives with higher expected climate change mitigation potential.
