The proposed new methodology applies to project activities that produce methanol from waste biomass feedstocks. Eligible activities include collecting, processing, transporting, and using waste biomass to displace coal or natural gas as the feedstock for methanol production. Emissions reductions are achieved by avoiding emissions released from the anaerobic decomposition or burning of the waste biomass and through a less emissions-intensive methanol production process relative to conventional feedstocks. The proposed new methodology is globally applicable.
The methodology idea note was submitted by LONGi Green Technology Co., Ltd. (www.longi.com) and is currently at “Step 2: Methodology Concept Note Development” of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, 4.3 (PDF).
