The proposed methodology applies to projects that increase karst carbon sinks through afforestation activities, such as afforestation, improved forest management, and grass planting. Karst is a landscape often associated with soluble rock types such as limestone, marble, and gypsum. GHG reductions are achieved as these activities increase soil CO2 concentration, accelerate rock weathering, and reduce CO2 emission in soil-to-air interface. The proposed methodology applies to karst regions worldwide.
SUMMARY OF DEVELOPMENT
The methodology idea note was rejected by Verra, as per Section 3.1.7 of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.3 (PDF). The decision was based on the proposal’s low climate change mitigation potential compared to other proposals.
