The proposed methodology applies to process heaters in petrochemical plants that generate crude hydrogen as a by-product. GHG emission reductions are achieved through fuel-switching of traditional hydrocarbon fuel with crude hydrogen to generate heat or power process heaters used in petrochemical processes.
Summary of Development:
The methodology idea note was rejected by Verra, as per Section 3.1.7 (3) of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.3 (PDF). The decision was based on concerns related to demonstrating additionality and potential risks associated with leakage.
