The proposed methodology applies to grid energy storage projects that optimize operations to achieve a reduction in the grid’s GHG emissions. Low-carbon electricity is dispatched during periods when the marginal emission rate is high. The storage projects under consideration comprise energy storage technologies (e.g., chemical batteries) of different sizes. The proposed methodology is globally applicable to new and existing grid-connected energy storage systems (ESS).
SUMMARY OF DEVELOPMENT
The proposed methodology was submitted by REsurety, Inc. and is currently at “Step 5. VVB Assessment” of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (MDRP) (PDF). Verra plans to follow an alternative development process per section 2.1.2 of the MDRP and use expert reviews during Step 5.
Verra hosted a public consultation from February 26, 2025 to April 11, 2025.
