This proposed methodology applies to project activities that enhance ex-situ mineral carbonation in mineral waste material (which includes mining and industrial wastes) through engineered activities on timescales relevant to global decarbonization efforts. Mineral carbonation (or CO2 mineralization) is a reaction between CO2 and certain metals that produces stable carbonates in mineral wastes, thereby sequestering CO2. This methodology leverages the global availability of mineral waste and applies to all project activities performed specifically to enhance the ex-situ mineral carbonation of mineral waste.
