Methodology for Emission Reduction from Production of Low Carbon Content Fossil Fuels

The proposed new methodology applies to project activities that produce and use lower carbon fossil fuel and reduce emissions associated with using of conventional fossil fuel. This methodology is intended to be globally applicable.

The methodology idea note was rejected by Verra, as per Section 3.1.7(3) of the  VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.3 (PDF). The decision was based on potential unmitigatable risks associated with demonstrating additionality. Further, activities that involve switching from a higher to a lower carbon content fuel are not covered in the VCS Program.
