Methodology for Alternative Low-Carbon Fuels for Shipping

The proposed methodology is for project activities that involve using low-carbon alternative fuels (such as hydrogen produced through water electrolysis, green ammonia, e-LNG, e-LPG, e-diesel, and e-methanol) in shipping, as drop-in fuels in dedicated ships. Eligible project activities include ships fuel-switching to alternative fuels and not for battery electric ships or ships using other types of fuels. The proposed methodology applies to all ship types and ships on territorial or high seas.

The proposed methodology was submitted by lino Kaiun Kaisha (external) and is currently at “Step 5: VVB Assessment” of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF). Verra hosted a public consultation from November 18, 2024 to December 18, 2024.
