I wanted to quickly remind you of the fast approaching deadline to submit applications to join a roster of experts that are able to participate in the peer review of jurisdictional REDD+ programs. As we start the New Year, more than a dozen jurisdictions are pursuing application of the VCS Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ (JNR) Framework. As a number of leading governments seek to verify the results of their REDD+ programs, we are now searching for qualified individuals to serve as JNR experts to participate in the review of these programs as they pursue registration with the VCS.
Jurisdictional REDD+ programs seeking to be validated under the VCS JNR will undergo the Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ Validation and Verification Process. A critical aspect of this process is the peer review by experts. Section 2.5 of the Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ Validation and Verification Process explains this in detail.
As a result, we’re now looking for reviewers with significant expertise in the development and/or assessment of REDD+ programs and related technical expertise to serve as JNR experts. A full list of expert requirements, as well as application procedures are laid out in Section 4 of the Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ Validation and Verification Process.
JNR experts may be called upon to participate in the validation/verification process for jurisdictional REDD+ programs that are seeking to register under the VCS. JNR Experts will offer their technical and practical knowledge to ensure the robustness and accuracy of such programs. Please note that preference will be given to applicants with experience reviewing:
- UNFCCC national forest inventories,
- FCPF Readiness Preparation Proposals (R-PPs) or Emission Reduction Program Idea Notes (ER-PINs),
- UN-REDD National Programs,
- Forest Investment Programs (FIP) pilot countries or another jurisdictional REDD+ program or jurisdictional baseline under the VCS Program or another GHG program.
Each JNR expert panel will have at least one person with the above experience.
Applications must include both the JNR Expert Application Form and a CV/resume. We ask that individuals interested in immediate consideration submit applications to the VCS at secretariat@v-c-s.org by 20 January 2014. Please note that all VCS Program experts are reviewed on a quarterly basis, meaning applications submitted after 20 January 2014 will not be considered until the following quarter.
We look forward to receiving your application for this position and want to thank you again for your interest and support of the VCS Program.
As always, all questions and comments can be submitted to secretariat@v-c-s.org.
