Much like forests, native grassland and shrubland ecosystems also act as an important carbon sink. Yet increasingly these ecosystems face the threat of conversion to agriculture, infrastructure as well as other uses that result in GHG emissions. To help address this issue a new revision to VM0009 is ready for immediate use.

Originally, this methodology only accounted for avoided deforestation and degradation; this revision extends its applicability to become the first VCS methodology to address Avoided Conversion of Grasslands and Shrublands (ACoGS).

VM0009 was developed and revised by Wildlife Works and now applies to eight baseline types based on the type of ecosystem (eg, forest, grassland and shrubland) and the nature of the drivers of land-use conversion.

VCS staff will be joined by representatives from Wildlife Works, as well as members from both DNV and ESI, the auditors who assessed the methodology, for a webinar on 10 July 2014 at 11:00am eastern standard time to introduce the methodology.
