Benefits planned over the project lifetime:

  • Implement community-based natural resources management with 20,000 rural, poor households.
  • Prevent deforestation within the Zanzibar-Inhambane Coastal Forest Mosaic Ecoregion biodiversity hotspot.
  • Diversify crop types and improve irrigation systems to create more drought-tolerant agriculture practices and restore mangroves to mitigate the effects of sea-level rise.

Katingan Peatland Restoration and Conservation Project

Emission Reductions achieved during monitoring period: 1,695,562 (tCO2e)
Benefits achieved during monitoring period:

  • Strengthened community and ecological resilience by restoring peat swamp ecosystems, climate-resilient infrastructure development, diversification of agroforestry systems, and implementation of natural disaster prevention and management systems.
  • Conserved important habitat for five critically endangered species, including the orangutan and proboscis monkey.
  • Provided training, technical assistance, and employment opportunities to 34 villages surrounding the project area, resulting in improved livelihoods for over 1,000 community members during the monitoring period.

Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation in Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary

Benefits achieved during monitoring period:

  • Reduced deforestation in over 25,000 ha of forest, protecting habitat for more than 40 globally threatened species including the Asian Elephant, black-shanked douc, and crested gibbon.
  • Provided agricultural and livestock productivity trainings in order to increase food security, incomes, and resilience to climate change of local communities.
