Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India and Iora Ecological Solutions have developed a new methodology that quantifies GHG emission reductions from both REDD and ARR activities.

Developed with a specific focus on South Asia, the methodology addresses localized drivers such as unsustainable fuelwood extraction and uncontrolled grazing that lead to degradation of forest lands. Reduction of these activities is important as their continuation may lead to deforestation.

The methodology is also the first methodology to include the option for community-based monitoring, which help to lower costs of monitoring, and leads to strengthening of forest management through increased coordination with communities.

The methodology is available for immediate use
