A new methodology to quantify GHG emission reductions from a range of energy efficiency and waste diversion activities has been approved under the VCS Program.

The methodology — VM0018 Energy Efficiency and Solid Waste Diversion Activities within a Sustainable Community – was developed by Quebec-based Will Solutions (formerly Gedden Inc.) together with ICF Marbek andCertiConseil.

The methodology can be used to calculate emission reductions from activities that improve energy efficiency and waste management practices in residential, commercial, institutional or industrial buildings and facilities.

Activities can include recycling, composting and installing more efficient heating, cooling and lighting systems, among others.

The methodology was assessed by two validation bodies under the VCS methodology approval process: DNV Climate Change Services and SGS United Kingdom. All assessment reports and other documents are available on the VM0018 page of the VCS website.

VCS, Will Solutions and SGS will host a webinar on 27 March to introduce stakeholders to the methodology and describe its approval process.
