We’re writing to introduce some exciting new work. This new initiative will allow us to apply our expertise in framework development to further support action on climate change. Through it, we are expanding our work with governments, which began with our Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ work years ago, into new areas. We look forward to providing further updates on this exciting initiative as we progress.
The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT), will provide policymakers worldwide with the tools and support to measure, assess and publicly report the impacts of their climate actions. ICAT will initially work in 20 developing countries to foster greater transparency, effectiveness and ambition in national climate policies.

Transparency is the bedrock of the Paris Agreement. ICAT aims to play an important role in bolstering arguments for countries to raise their ambition and contribute significantly to combating global climate change.
Implementing partners of the initiative are UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP), Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and World Resources Institute (WRI). The Climate, Community & Biodiversity Alliance and Rainforest Alliance are also supporting partners and will contribute to specific aspects of the initiative. The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) manages the trust fund through which the work is funded. The project is backed by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea (IMELS) and ClimateWorks Foundation.
